Aim of the Workshop

The TSI (Technical Support Instrument) is operated by the European Commission’s Reform and Investment Taskforce (SG REFORM). TAIEX TSI events are organised by DG ENEST in agreement with SG REFORM for the benefit of Member States that are receiving technical support through the TSI.

The aim of the workshop, co-hosted by Cyprus's Civil Defence Service under the Ministry of Interior and the Department of the Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (MARDE), is to enhance climate change adaptation and preventing disastrous incidents by fostering knowledge sharing among Cypriot stakeholders. It aims to increase the operational skills and capacities of local, regional and national administrations in Cyprus to implement adaptation policies and measures and improved coping capacities to lessen the adverse impacts of climate change. At the same time the workshop would help to clarify the scope and rationale of the civil protection frameworks, focusing on their prioritisation of climate-induced disaster risks and resilience-building measures, distinctions between various climate-related hazards and the legal and political considerations shaping their adaptation strategies. The workshop also aims to enable knowledge sharing for the Cypriot stakeholders to understand methodologies, tools and initiatives used by other EU Member State organisations managing disaster risks in relation with climate adaptation and preventing disastrous incidents.

Aligned with Cyprus’s updated National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (NAS) and Action Plan (NAP) – coordinated by the Department of the Environment with technical support from the European Commission’s SG REFORM and international/local experts – the initiative addresses capacity-building, training and networking needs. Supported by the Civil Defence Service, the workshop seeks to strengthen cross-sectoral dialogue, operational skills and policy implementation across local, regional and national administrations to improve adaptation capacities and reduce climate change impacts.
